David Letterman Went To The Caps Game To Cheer On His College Roommate, Alexander Ovechkin
Is David Letterman the reason the Caps lost last night? Well, I’m not sure. What I do know is the Caps had never lost a 2nd round game to the Penguins with Letterman in attendance, so evidence is weighing heavily against him. But regardless, the reason he was there checks out. My friend Dan from the Washington Post interviewed him to get the scoop, and I think it cleared everything up pretty well:
WaPo - Steinberg: I wanted to ask why you’re here and who you’re rooting for, I guess.
Letterman: Well, the second question — who do you think we’re rooting for?
Steinberg: I really don’t know.
Letterman: It’s the Capitals. I went to school with Ovechkin.
Steinberg: Oh, you did?
Letterman: Yeah, I did. We were roommates at Ball State.
Steinberg: Oh, cool.
Letterman: Yeah.
Steinberg: What did he study?
Letterman: Home ec.
Pretty open and shut case. David Letterman and Ovi go way back, so he was in the crowd supporting his friend. I’m glad we have that sorted out, otherwise it would be pretty random for a guy who lives in Montana to appear at a Caps playoff game after literally never being spotted at one ever before.
Unfortunately he didn’t inspire the Caps the way Uncle Joe did the Wizards, so hopefully he won’t be back. Nothing personal, just business.
